S.T.E.M.

It is more important than ever for students to be equipped with the knowledge and skills to solve

challenging problems, gather and evaluate evidence, and make sense of information.

These types of skills are learned by the opportunity to study S.T.E.M.

This expansion of the tutoring program is a specialized summer curriculum based on educational

activities- Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.  During this time the children are

challenged to work on projects that fall within the specific areas of study to learn and have fun

at the same time.

The objective is to provide exciting and challenging learning opportunities that evoke problem-solving

skills across the four disciplines, to incorporate both long and short-term outcomes.

The inquire portion of S.T.E.M. tasks involves areas of science and math, while the design portion relies

on technology and engineering principles.

Our goal is to give all children the opportunity to be college and career ready to be competitive in

a modern S.T.E.M. economy.

Summer Reading Program

Our Summer Reading Program takes place in June and lasts one week, for four hours per day.

We enroll grades K - 6.

Activities include daily reading assignments followed by group discussion.

We also include a novel study in which students read daily and write in a journal.

Students work in centers according to grade level.

We utilize computer educational apps such as Brain Pop, Fun Brain, ABCya, PBS Kids, and Myon.

Goals are:

*Help young children build and improve reading and language skills.

*Help prepare children for success.

*Motivate children to read and discuss literature.

*Encourage utilization of the Wilson County Civic League Library.
